University of Fort Hare (UFH)


The University of Fort Hare (UFH) is a public university in Alice, in the Eastern Cape province, one of the poorest and most underdeveloped provinces in South Africa. It has two other campuses located in East London and Bhisho. UFH has over 11,000 students and has had a positive impact on the local economy.


The mission of the University is to provide high quality education of international standards contributing to the advancement of knowledge that is socially and ethically relevant, and applying that knowledge to the scientific, technological and social-economic development of our nation and the wider world.
