The University of Göttingen enjoys an excellent reputation as a university with great strengths (90th position in the Shanghai-Ranking worldwide, fourth among the German universities.) It is one of the nine promoted universities in the Excellence Initiative of the German Federal and State Government and is one of the three German universities with exemplary and innovative concepts in the framework of the “New Ways Ahead in Teacher Training” programme (Central Agency for Evaluation and Accreditation). Research Support at the University of Göttingen
The University of Göttingen has the opportunity to grant research support or partially fund necessary trips, excursions or scientific events. The Universitätsbund funds the amelioration of contact between the University and the public. The Georg-August-Universität Foundation provides seed money in the application phase of large research projects.

Exchange studies
University of Goettingen offers a wide range of courses taught in English and German for the exchange students from around the world at undergraduate, MSc and PhD level. One needs to be registered at the home university in a country covered by PEACE Project. Master degree studies
University of Goettingen offers Research-oriented education in an outstanding scientific environment with its approximately 80 Master’s Degree programs, of which 22 are taught in English. The duration of study usually is four semesters. Some intensive programs allow transition into a Ph.D. program after three semesters. We continually increase the variety of bi-national Master's Degree programs. All the applicants should meet the requirements of the study programs, which vary from programs to programs. PhD studies
All faculties at the University of Göttingen offer the possibility to achieve a doctoral degree. Candidates must already have a Master’s Degree or proof of equivalent academic achievement. Doctoral studies at the University of Göttingen take place within structured programmes in three graduate schools. Most of the Ph.D. programmes are held in English and require three years to be completed. Besides the structured Ph.D. programmes there is also the possibility for independent research under supervision of a »Doktorvater« or »Doktormutter«. These doctoral students have the same opportunity as students in structured Ph.D. programmes to become a member of the graduate schools and make use of their services. All the doctoral candidates are required to establish the contact with the potential supervisor with the research synopsis. You will find the information about application procedures on the webpage of each program.
Therefore, it is important for the Erasmus Mundus program that any prospective PhD student either has been accepted by the PhD Program or have an invitation by a potential supervisor at the University. A Letter of Interest/ invitation from the supervisor should be enclosed with your application.
